The Temple of Madurai



Madurai, Southern India:

Madurai (in Tamil) is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu, located on the banks of Vaigai River in Southern India. Its population exceeds 1293 million (2006) and is known among others for the Minakshi temple located in the heart of the city that attracts tourists and pilgrims. Capital of Pandya, Madurai has a history of 2,500 years and was a commercial center that the Romans knew.

Madurai is synonymous with the famous temple of Meenakshi. Located on the banks of the Vaigai, Madurai has a rich cultural heritage passed on for over 2500 years since the era Tamil.
